Smashing Time is
the story of two northern girls, Yvonne & Brenda, who go to swinging
60's London to become'faces'on Carnaby Street. Fortunately after a couple
of days of washing-up & waitressing, Yvonne becomes a swinging pop
star & Brenda (thanks to her new fashion photographer boyfriend)
becomes 'the face of the 1970s'. What a spot of luck!! But do they really
have the 'smashing time' they had hoped for when finding fame &
fortune in London? This film is the one cheesiest 60's films ever with
its mockney accents, male chauvinists, silly food fights & constant
musical numbers, which are all so bad it's great!! Smashing Time comes
highly recommended not just for it's comedy value but also for its style
& fashions to inspire all up & coming 60's kids!! Very psychedelic,
pussycat. Watch out for Michael York (a.k.a Basil Exposition from Austin
Powers) as the cheeky, mockney, fashion photographer.
7/10 first look
9/10 sixties exploitation
